Audacity of Shame

Susan Nevens | 13 April 2016

Let us not be fooled for one second that the relationship between Israel and the US was strained during Barack Obama's administration.

In its article dated April 10, 2016, the NYT calls Barack Obama "Israel’s Unsung Protector", alas for he sobers of this world Mr. Obama's protection of Israel was celebrated and prominent ballad which has been playing for the last 7 years.

In fact no president in 20/21st century of the US history has been as accommodating to Israel as Barack Obama, the man who has professed that he feels Jewish in his soul.

The man whose White House has posted twice as many items about Jewish concerns as George W. Bush’s did. The man who has talked endlessly about his “sympathy and identification with the Jewish experience,” his “passions for Israel’s survival,” his “closeness to the Jewish American community,” and “the deep affinities he feel for the Israeli people and for the Jewish people."

The case for Obama’s Israel policy is ever more augmented with record-high levels of Foreign Military Financing (FMF). The Obama administration has increased security assistance to Israel every single year since the president took office, providing nearly $10 billion in aid — covering roughly a fifth of Israel’s defense budget — over the past three years. To put this in perspective, this is about 20% higher than the remaining six dozen recipients of U.S. FMF combined.

In fact Obama has increased the military aids to Israel more than once despite the fact that the United States and Israel sign defense agreements once every 10 years and the new agreement would have not gone to effect until October 2017, when the United States begins its 2018 fiscal year. But in 2011Obama felt that the Democrats will lose Jewish voters and contributors during the 2012 presidential election unless his administration committed to increasing its security assistance beyond the current, considerable sum of $3.1 billion annually, so he raised it to $4 billion a year till 2017.

In fact the Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak recorded a public service message in which he praised the Obama administration for providing more defense assistance to Israel than any other president ever.

Mr. Obama's historic aid levels have been complemented by other steps to ensure Israel’s unrivaled military advantage in the region, including high-level consultation with Israeli officials on U.S. arms sales to the region, operational cooperation to improve Israel’s conventional military and counterterrorism capabilities, and providing Israel with advanced technology, such as the fifth-generation stealth Joint Strike Fighter, to which no other state in the Middle East has access.

Under Obama’s direction, the United States has deepened defense cooperation by championing efforts to provide Israel with $275 million over and above its annual FMF (Foreign Military Fund) to help finance Iron Dome, an anti-rocket system, right in the middle of Israel massacring Gazan in summer of 2014 .

Obama has consistently defended Israel at the United Nations, rejecting the Goldstone report, defending Israel over the Gaza flotilla incident with Turkey, and blocking Palestinian attempts to circumvent direct negotiations with Israel and impose an outcome through early recognition of statehood.

But then again it mattered naught that some of us talked incessantly about Mr. President kindness to Israel, our words were not words of US MSM God the New York Times.

BTW, both Hillary Clinton the Senator, the Secretary of State and Senator Bernie Sanders were cheerleaders of this 'Unsung" protector of Israel, they both gave their blessing and stamp of approval. The former (Clinton) shamelessly gloats about it, the latter (Sanders) shamelessly skirts around the subject.

Presidential candidate Bernie Sanders

Presidential candidate Bernie Sanders is gaining legions of new admirers by shamelessly pandering to voters who want to hear the truth, critics of the Vermont senator say.

According to those critics, Sanders has cynically targeted so-called “truth-based voters” to build support for his Presidential bid.

“People come to Sanders’s rallies expecting to hear the truth, and he serves it up to them on a silver platter,” the political strategist Harland Dorrinson said. “It’s a very calculated gimmick.”

But while Sanders’s practice of relentlessly telling the truth might play well in states that are rich in truth-based voters, like the early primary and caucus states; New Hampshire, Nevada, Washington, Alaska, Hawaii, Wisconsin, Wyoming, Utah and Idaho....or upcoming 'Truth based voters" state like California, critics say that his campaign could stall in states where the truth has historically been less important, like New York.

“At some point in this campaign, voters are going to get truth fatigue,” Dorrinson said. “Right now, the novelty of a politician who doesn’t constantly spew lies is grabbing headlines. But after months of Bernie Sanders telling the truth, voters are going to start wondering, Is that all he’s got?” tongue emoticon

Dorrinson is just one of many critics who is eagerly waiting for the Sanders phenomenon to come down to Earth. “Telling the truth may be working for Bernie Sanders, but it shows a serious lack of respect for the American political system,” he said.

According to Chair of Hillary Clinton campaign, John Podesta of the Podesta Group, who took a few minutes from his busy schedule defending his good name which has appeared on the Panama Papers, "shameless truth telling is not Sanders only problem", said Podesta.

"Bernie Sanders campaign has other 'bridges over the troubled water' to cross," said John Podesta, criticizing Sanders as being firmly in the pocket of the high-rolling educator in light of accepting a check for amount of $300 sent to his campaign office by a local elementary school teacher.

“He might have the reputation of being the people’s candidate, but when your candidacy is effectively bankrolled by the multi-hundred-dollar donation of a fourth-grade teacher, it’s clear who’s really pulling the strings,” said Podesta, who also noted that when a check arrives with a handwritten note that says “Behind you 100% Bernie!” it comes with certain expectations.

“He’s already spouting off talking points about supporting unions and increasing funding for education. Where do you think he got those ideas? He might think he’s not influenced by that money, but when someone has deep enough pockets to drop $300, you pick up the phone when they call”, said the political analyst Chris Mathews of MSNBC who also went on to say he wouldn’t be surprised if Sanders’ strong support for a living wage could be directly traced to the fat $20 contribution he got from a fast-food worker.

** PS: Putting together the above humorous piece with great deal of help from Andy Borowitz articles which I have manipulated a little has a purpose.

The purpose is to amplify the absurdity of Hillary Clinton campaign and not necessarily endorse Sanders. We know pretty much by now what Mr. Sanders is all about, we credit him on many points as he seems to be above the fray of corruption and more in touch with the Main Street. Having said that we should also acknowledge Mr. Sanders lack of knowledge in Foreign policy and International Relations, and his duplicity pertinent to his anti-war stance which is in stark contradiction to his voting 'yes' for 'war' on 8 occasions.

1. Yugoslavia
2. Lebanon
3. Palestine.
4. Syria
5. Libya
6. Afghanistan
7. Yemen.
8. Somalia

W.E.B. Du Bois

Susan Nevens | 11 April 2016

Before Martin Luther King, there was W.E.B. Du Bois who had a dream, when did their dream for the African Americans in this nation turned to a nightmare by considering Clintons the heir to these men?

Charles Darwin...

Susan Nevens | 4 April 2016

In his Descent of Man (1871), Darwin wrote: ". . . For my part I would as soon be descended from [a] baboon . . . as from a savage who delights to torture his enemies . . . treats his wives like slaves . . . and is haunted by the grossest superstitions."

“I can indeed hardly see how anyone ought to wish Christianity to be true; for if so the plain language of the text seems to show that the men who do not believe, and this would include my Father, Brother, and almost all my best friends, will be everlastingly punished. And this is a damnable doctrine.”

—Charles Darwin, Autobiography

Charles Robert Darwin was born in England. He prepared for the Church at Cambridge, but his passion was natural history. During his work as a naturalist for the Beagle, he began documenting and formulating his theory of evolution. At the time he wrote the monumental On the Origin of Species (1859), he still accepted the "First Cause" argument. Gradually he threw off his religious beliefs.

He wrote the Rev. J. Fordyce on July 7, 1879, that "an agnostic would be the most correct description of my state of mind." Darwin penned his memoirs between the ages of 67 and 73, finishing the main text in 1876. These memoirs were published posthumously in 1887 by his family under the title Life and Letters of Charles Darwin, with his hardest-hitting views on religion excised. Only in 1958 did Darwin's granddaughter Nora Barlow publish his Autobiography with original omissions restored (see excerpt below). D. 1882.

I find Charles Darwin's words to be poignant and enlightening.
